Ceramics II

 Smoke Fired Ceramics
Smoke fired pottery created by Ceramics 2 students. After the bisque fire, masking tape is applied to the clay in patterns. The bisque fired clay is placed in a pit with combustible material like saw dust. The fire is kept going for a few hours and lid applied to create a reduction atmosphere. The clay drinks up the smoke where the tape is not. The random nature of the darkest parts determined on the wares location in the pit.
